  113. Fleetwood Mac, formed in 1967, initially began as one of Britain's
  114. great blues-influenced rock ensembles. Over the course of many
  115. lineup changes and a relocation to Los Angeles in 1974, "Big Mac"
  116. evolved into one of the most successful pop/rock units in commercial
  117. music history.
  118. During the early years, Fleetwood Mac endured a succession of
  119. unstable (but brilliant) lead-guitarist/singer/songwriters in Peter
  120. Green, Danny Kirwan, and Jeremy Spencer. Green and Spencer
  121. eventually jumped ship for cultish religious pursuits, and Kirwan
  122. (who ended up in a psychiatric hospital) was fired in 1972 for
  123. refusing to go on stage at a Munich gig. Green, in particular, wrote
  124. some classics in "Oh Well," "Black Magic Woman" (later a hit for
  125. Santana), and "The Green Manalishi (With the Two-Pronged Crown)."
  126. Danny Kirwan contributed many of the standout tracks on albums like
  127. BARE TREES, including the haunting "Dust," the ethereal "Sunny Side
  128. of Heaven," and the propulsive title track.
  129. Bob Welch, a Los Angeles resident, was brought on board in 1971.
  130. During his time with Fleetwood Mac, Welch penned some standouts as
  131. well, like "Hypnotized" and "Sentimental Lady." During all these
  132. changes, drummer Mick Fleetwood, bassist John McVie, and vocalist
  133. and keyboardist Christine McVie (also a fine songwriter) provided
  134. the glue for the proceedings.
  135. In January of 1975 Welch left, and engineer and producer Keith Olsen
  136. turned the band on to a tape of Lindsey Buckingham and Stevie Nicks
  137. (who had previously released a much-sought-after debut on Polydor
  138. called BUCKINGHAM NICKS). They were hired onto Fleetwood Mac, and
  139. the rest is history.
  140. FLEETWOOD MAC, the first album featuring the new lineup, became a
  141. goldmine, eventually hitting #1 in November 1976, fifteen months
  142. after its release. After much inner turmoil, Fleetwood Mac put out
  143. RUMOURS, which topped charts around the world and became one of the
  144. biggest albums in history. Mac never duplicated the impact of
  145. RUMOURS, but subsequent albums (TUSK, FLEETWOOD MAC LIVE, MIRAGE,
  146. TANGO IN THE NIGHT) have been substantial successes.
  147. Buckingham (who left in 1987) and Nicks have enjoyed solid solo
  148. careers, and Christine McVie had a #10 hit in 1984 with "Got a Hold
  149. on Me" from her self-titled solo album.
  150. Fleetwood Mac reunited with two new guitarists in 1989, releasing
  151. the lackluster BEHIND THE MASK.
  152. In November 1993, confirming the departure of Stevie Nicks and
  153. guitarist Billy Burnette, Fleetwood Mac announced the addition of
  154. vocalist Bekka Bramlett and veteran singer, songwriter, and
  155. guitarist Dave Mason to the band's lineup, joining Fleetwood and the
